“Do as I say, not as I do marketing.”
My confession: As an online web marketing strategist, SEO consultant and customer experience advocate, I should be on top of all of my own business’ marketing. After all, I work with many small to mid-sized companies and help them improve traffic to their websites, increase their visibility in the search engines and increase their conversion rates by providing a better customer experience.
I stress to them how important it is to make time to market their business online. Even a few hours a week makes a difference, and each action and interaction builds visibility and customer relationships.
As I say this, I feel a bit like a parent who tells their kids one thing, but is doing another. Honestly, I get how hard it is to carve out that extra needed few hours to interact on LinkedIn, write a blog post or email newsletter or post a few pictures. I’m busy taking care of my client’s online marketing needs, and I know they’re busy running their business and taking care of their customers.
As I preach continually to all of my clients, you cannot think of online marketing as a “set it and forget it” strategy. It moves too fast; there are too many different aspects and web channels. I didn’t mean for it to happen to my own business’ web marketing, but it did. Now, you can see how I fix it.

Recently, I looked at my website, which I had been wanting to redo for quite some time and thanks to Google’s algorithmic push regarding mobile-friendly sites, finally updated my website.
Today, I’m writing a blog post. Something that I haven’t done for way too long. I’ve learned over the years of working with my clients, that we sometimes make marketing too difficult and overthink topics.
Over the next few weeks and months, I hope to share my journey as I market my business – the process, strategies and the tools and resources.
